Somalia
Somalia has a parliamentary system in place. The federal government of Somalia established in
August 2012, after the Transtiional Federal Government was created in 2004. Hassan
Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, was elected by the federal parliament.

Under current conditions, the US and Somalia are neutral towards one another. In January 2013 the US announced it was ready to exchange diplomatic notes with the government of Somalia. The two remain neutral. Despite the political indifference, the US is the main supplier of armaments to the Somali National Army. The 2 countries engage in minor trade and investment. Somalia was a close ally of the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s. But they had a fallout over the Ogaden War, which caused the Soviets to support Ethiopia and Somalia to seek support from the US. The Somali Civil War in the early 1990s with the closing of the US embassy in Mogadishu caused the relationship to suffer. However, things started to fall back towards at least neutrality lately.
The US supported the United Nations Security Council action to approve a UN resolution in March 2013 to suspend the 21-year arms embargo on Somalia. On April 2013 the US government approved the provision of defense articles and services by American to the Somali government. In late 2013 the US military established a small team of advisers in Mogadishu to provide consultative and planning support to the allied forces.
